Everyone wants to know what the affiliate marketing secret is….in reality, there is no big secret to success….just certain steps one must take to become successful.

In this article we are going to focus on the steps you must take, and more importantly….the things you must avoid!

#1 pitfall to avoid- Product overload!….IM is a booming business and there are literally thousands of ebooks, courses, membership packages, software programs and more that people are marketing directly to the internet marketer.

The truth is, a lot of the products out there are just rewrites of other products. Most of the books and software can be beneficial….but you should only use them once you have a good idea how IM works and are making some sales. Too many beginning internet marketers spend all there money on the next big thing and when it doesn’t work they fill as though they got scammed….In actuality, it wasn’t the ebooks fault….it was yours for not understanding the basics!

My biggest advice is to not spend one more dime on software or ebooks until you learn how to use free techniques to generate sales. The only exception to this is if you find a good private membership forum where you can post and get help when you get stuck but this shouldn’t cost you more than – a month at most!

Key #1- Learn how to do proper research. Instead of finding a product and trying to figure out how to promote it….find a hungry crowd with a problem they are trying to solve and then find a product to solve it….Forums are a great place to find niches and find out what problems they are having.

You should be spending 10 times as much time researching a market as you do trying to write sales copy to sale to that market….Once you know what problems your hungry crowd is trying to solve, selling to them is almost too easy.

Key #2- Decide which direction you are going to take and become a master in that area….If you decide to market using PPC, you should start slow and master every concept involved with paid advertising….When you run into a problem, go to your favorite forum and post your question or go to google and do some research into your problem.

If you decide to use all free methods of marketing then you should master that as well….Learn how to article market, use squidoo, US Free ads, blogs, ect….and give it time to work before you quit or move on to the next method or buy the next guru’s book.

Key #3- Take Action Now. I spent several months trying to learn how to be successful on the internet with no success at all….the problem was I kept reading “how to” and never “did”.

Once you take action, you know what questions to ask and which obstacles you need to overcome. Once I started “doing”, my IM career changed dramatically and almost overnight.

If you take one thing out of this article, taking action is the most important. That truly is the affiliate marketing secret!
